(1999), Kirby has been voiced by Makiko Ohmoto (in exception for certain lines in the English dub of the anime, where he is voiced by Amy Birnbaum.) Kirby was originally voiced by Taeko Kawata in the Kirby and the Story of the Dream Spring (1994). Following Kirby's Dream Land (1992), Kirby can gain the abilities of the enemies he swallowed, such as Fire (from Hot Head or Burning Leo), Sword (from Blade/Sword Knight), Fighter (from Knuckle Joe), and Cutter (from Sir Kibble).
The main games give Kirby the same basic abilities he can walk, run, jump, float and inhale, as well as spit out or swallow his enemies. The villains he encounters typically threaten his home of Dream Land ( プププランド, Pupupu Rando, Pupupu Land) on Planet Pop Star ( ポップスター, Poppusutā, Pop Star), mostly King Dedede, or Meta Knight.
Kirby ( カービィ, Kābī) is the protagonist of the series and a playable character in every game except Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe.
